With its new line of devices, Google worked a lot on Machine learning and it reflects in every device which is launched at the event. Every google device like Google Home, Google Max speakers will seamlessly integrate with the new Google Pixel 2.

The new Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are IP 67 water and dust resistant.
The 5-Inch version of Google Pixel 2 comes with Full-HD OLED display. The display is smart enough to understand the pixels it needs to turn on and the pixels it needs to keep off. This will make a significant improvement in the battery life. Just like the previous Pixel Phones, the display supports VR.
The 6 Inch Google Pixel 2 XL comes with an innovative pOLED display with an elegantly curved glass which brings the display to the edges. Using this screen google tried to achieve full-screen immersive experience with the Google Pixel 2 XL. This screen supports 18:9 QHD+ resolution with 538 pixels per inch. Google integrated a circular polarizer in the screen which will help you use the phone in the bright sunlight even when you are wearing sunglasses.

Google claims that Pixel 2 takes better portrait shots with the combination of Single Camera and Machine learning. During the event, the shots do look stunning, but we have to wait for the real-world shots to see how powerful this combination really is.
Google didn’t miss the chance of mentioning the advantage of Unlimited Storage in Google Photos in front of limited storage of iCloud provided by Apple. They also mentioned that Pixel users take twice the number of photos than the iPhone users.
Processor & RAM
64Bit Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with Adreno 540 chipset (2.35 GHz + 1.9 GHz)
4GB DDR4 RAM
64 GB & 128 GB storage options for both phones
The fingerprint sensor on the New Pixel Devices is placed on the rear while keeping the natural phone holding position in mind. Google claims that the fingerprint sensor unlocks the phone faster than before.
Speakers & Music
In the front, the Google Pixel 2 carries front-facing stereo speakers. It will help you watch videos in landscape mode with no compromise in sound quality. When it comes to earphones, you have to plug-in an adapter (which comes in the box) if you want to use your conventional earphones.
Google Pixel 2 supports the highest Bluetooth version – Bluetooth 5.0 with NFC & Wi-Fi 2.4G
Pixel 2 – 2700 mAh battery
Pixel 2 XL – 3520 mAh battery
With the fast charging feature, you can charge your phone for up to 7 hours of usage in just 15 minutes. While the new iPhone supports wireless charging, the Pixel 2 does not support wireless charging.
When it comes to colors, Google is sticking to its traditional color pallet for Pixel Phones. The Google Pixel 2 will come in 3 colors – “Kind of Blue” “Just Black” and Clearly White”
The Pixel 2 XL comes in two colors – Black & White and Just Black.
Google unveiled a new “Always on Display” for Pixel 2. With this display, you can use Google Assistant and check all your notifications even without pushing any button or unlocking your phone. Google also displayed “Now Playing” feature with which Pixel 2 can identify any song without searching it on Google or sending any information to Google’s database. This feature works even while the screen is locked with the help of machine learning technique which google is extensively using for its latest devices.
Google also unveiled its new collection of “Live Wallpapers” which look amazing on the gorgeous display of Google Pixel 2. The Home Screen of Google Pixel 2 shows latest updates for your day and Google called it “at a glance” feature. Google will add more features like traffic update, flight status and even more in the near future.
The google search on Pixel 2 will not only search the web, it will also include your apps, contacts, messages, and play store.
The most amazing feature which is announced in the event was “Active Edge” which will help you reach the Google Assistant faster than ever.
All you need to do is squeeze your phone (just a quick squeeze) and google assistant will be activated. Don’t worry, Google used machine learning here as well to identify the difference between accidental squeeze and intentional squeeze. Although many of us might accidentally squeeze the power button (which also happened during the event) 😉
Google also provided a preview of “Google Lens” in the event. They showed a demo of how the Google Lens can smartly pick the email address from a random poster on the street helping you drop an email to the company quickly.
You need not type the words or search for anything via assistance, just use google lens and scan the object to find more information about it. Google plans to bring the “Google Lens” feature everywhere, but the Pixel users will get to use it first.
Google Pixel 2 – $649 for 64 GB & $749 for 128 GB
Google Pixel 2 XL – $849 for 64 GB & $949 for 128 GB
Google again poked Apple fans by mentioning that it takes less than 10 minutes to shift all your data from iPhone to Google Pixel (in case you want to switch from Apple to google). Not just that, you can find a “Why switch” section on Google’s website explaining why you should switch from Apple to Google Pixel phones.
One thing that I personally liked is that Google kept both the devices same in terms of performance and features. The only differences are of Displays and battery. The 5-inch version has a Cinematic display which does not give you the feel of that curved or edge to edge display, but the 6-inch version has the pOLED curved display which looks slightly better than the Cinematic display (IMHO).
In terms of battery, the Pixel 2 comes with only 2700 mAh battery which might be less for a phone with the Snapdragon 835 processor. We still hope that Android Oreo comes into play here and saves the juice to run the pixel 2 for a whole day.
So, you need not pick the bigger one if you are like me who prefers 5 Inch screen for one hand operation and ok with the limited battery life. Which one you gonna pick? Do let us know in the comment section below.
